The ceremony held in Department of Communication Studies, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Department of Communication Studies, BZU and School of Journalism and Cultural Studies, Cardiff University, UK for the placement of PhD students.
Signing the new agreement, Professor Allan in his video message said: "We are very excited about this new agreement which will afford us an opportunity to explore different ways in which our respective institutions can collaborate and exchange ideas.
The Chairman, Department of Communication Studies, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Shabir in his address paid his thanking remarks to Professor Stuart Allan, Head of School of Journalism & Cultural Studies, Cardiff University, UK and congratulated the PhD students, teaching faculty, department and Bahauddin Zakariya University on this agreement. He further explained that Cardiff University is among the leading universities in UK and ranked 122nd in QS World ranking. After signing the MOU document, he said that the programme has been officially launched to enhance the research skills and capacity of PhD students enrolled in Department of Communication Studies, Bahuddin Zakariya University, Multan-Pakistan. The linkage programme can bring Pakistani institution into a wider network of international partnership and the PhD students will be able to develop their research capability so that they can contribute towards the national development. The core purpose of this programme is to give the students an international exposure and strengthening the research potential to impart quality education. The focus will be on providing students the best study environment with a view to creating a pool of talented experts in the field of communication and media research. Moreover, this MoU commits us to work together more closely towards our common goal and the pursuit of the internationalization of education. He also thanked to Dr. Shahzad Ali who as an administrative and Liaison officer bridged us together by proposing this programme between both universities. In closing, he assured to giving full support, in his capacity as a Chairman to make our collaboration fruitful and promised that the Department and the university will do whatever it can in order to provide a successful implementation of this MoU.
Dr. Shahzad Ali addressing the ceremony via telephone explained that this agreement would last for the period of three years and 4 PhD students would visit Cardiff University, UK on yearly basis in this way two PhD students will visit after six months interval in a whole year. Visiting students will be treated as full student members, for the period spent at Cardiff University, and will have access to the library, computing, recreational and social facilities of the University on the same basis as Cardiff University degree-seeking students. Access to e-resources is permitted only for the period that BZU students spend at Cardiff University. BZU visiting students will be subject to the same academic policies and standards of conduct at Cardiff University as degree-seeking students, for the duration of the period of study at Cardiff University. In the end, he expected from the students that they would visit Cardiff University as true ambassadors of Pakistan and passionate towards cross cultural learning environment.
